Prof. Moses Ayodele (M.A.) Olade is a retired Professor of Economic Geology who has lectured and published widely on the mineral deposits of Nigeria. He obtained a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Geology in 1969 from the premier University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and an M.Sc. in Economic Geology from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada in 1972 where he studied Precambrian sandstone uranium deposits in the Northwest Territories. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada in 1974 where he worked o mineral exploration of porphyry copper deposits using lithogeochemical methods and wall rock alteration halos. He was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Geological Survey of Canada, Ottawa where he investigated uranium occurrences in alkaline igneous complexes. He was appointed as a Lecturer at his alma mater, the University of Ibadan in 1975, and rose rapidly to become a Full Professor in 1980. He was the Head of Department of Geology from 1980 t0 1985 and acted as the Program Director of the first UNDP-sponsored Postgraduate training (M.Sc.) in Mineral Exploration, the first in Africa. He took a leave of absence for four years to become the pioneer Dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure. Prof. Oladehas supervised several dozens of M.Sc. and Ph.D. dissertations; and carried out extensive research and published widely on mineral deposits of Nigeria, including tin, gold, lead-zinc, iron ore, uranium and industrial minerals. He is the author of over 100 journal articles and technical reports.
Prof. Olade migrated with his young family to the United States in 1991. After more than two decades sojourn working as a professional geologist and an environmental program manager at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, and as adjunct Professor at the Maricopa Community College and theniversity of Phoenix, he retired and returned to Nigeria as a Visiting Professor and Dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences at the Achievers University, Owo (his home town) where for seven years he lectured and provided leadership in developing academic programs at the new University, as well as collecting data and conducting field visits for his books. He is author to three books on mineral resources namely: Mineral Deposits and Exploration Potential of Nigeria (2020); Basics of Economic Geology and Mining Practices (2021); and Introduction to Mineral Deposits Geology (2022). Prof. Olade is a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Economic Geologists and former Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Journal of Mining and Geology. He is married with children and grandchildren, and currently spends his time in full retirement in Nigeria, and traveling regularly to the US and Europe to visit family.
